Baile Atha Cliath

The city of Dublin, capital of the Republic of Ireland. I didn't exactly spend a lot of time touring the city centre. Rather, I spent my time around Dublin. First off was a visit to Howth, a small seaside town. Nice view of the sea. We got to see Ireland's Eye. No, it's not a giant ferris wheel like the one in London. Instead, it's a small island of the coast of Ireland. Don't know why they called it Ireland's Eye though. We had a picnic by the seaside (there's no beach, so it's not a picnic on the beach). The wind was so cold! Yat and I was just wearing a thin piece of jacket because we thought it's going to be as warm as London. What a mistake! Hahah..There was an unforgettable incident with a dog and a bus, but I won't tell it here. Only the people involved would know what happened. Hahaha..

Pic at a marina, Howth

Next, we stopped by Malahide Castle. It's quite a small one compared to most of the castles in the UK. We didn't even go inside, just took some pics around the castle. Another unforgettable incident happened. This one I'll tell. The castle is famous for its 'Lady in White' ghost (as opposed to Lady in Green ghost in our school..hahah..) Now, Nana kept mentioning about this Lady a.k.a. the penunggu of this castle. Suddenly, she heard her phone rang. What's the significance, you think? It's normal for a phone to ring, right? Wrong! Her phone never rang before. It just vibrated. When it rang, she was so surprised and freaked out a bit. Hahah. When we left the castle, her phone went back to normal i.e. it didn't ring but just vibrated when there's a call. Wasn't that a bit mysterious?

Powerscourt Garden was our next stop. We left early in the morning for this beautiful garden about 20km outside Dublin. It's such a beautiful place. I think a film was made there but I'm not sure which one. Unfortunately for us, not all the flowers are in bloom. If not, the visit would have been made more memorable. We also walked for more than an hour to the waterfall, said to be the highest in Ireland. It's really beautiful. Subhanallah. The magnificent view totally made up for the torture of walking uphill for most of the time. It's like DoE with nice clothes (I think Shila was the one who said this). And some unlucky people even got chased by a dog. Hahah..

Beautiful waterfall

Other places in Dublin that I visited were:

Book of Kells in Trinity College - an exhibition on old manuscripts found in Ireland. I think all of the books was about Christianity. Their library of old books is totally huge! I really want a library like that!

St. Stephen's Green Park - A park in the middle of Dublin. Almost similar to Hyde Park but a bit smaller.

The flowers are blooming..

Various people's houses around Dublin - Zazoo's, Aisyah's, Aliyya's, Nana's & Shila's. Spent a night in each of their houses except Aliyya's. I want a house like Aliyya's!

Gathering dgn stfians 9701 di Ire except asma', termasuk penyibuk Wan Aisyah ngn Yat ahaha..

I'm writing this in Nana's room in Trinity Hall, Dublin. Nice hall. Will be back in London tomorrow on the 8 am flight. I think it's going to be the same flight as the guys. Had a nice time visiting Dublin, Cork and Galway. Posts on those when I get back to London with nothing to do. I'll upload pics later too.

Final weekend

Yeay! The weekend's finally here. This is the final one till Easter hols. Can't wait for the holidays to start. Hum but before that I still have another week of classes and lectures to go.

My Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell book finally arrived yesterday. I've been waiting eagerly to read this book after reading lots of good reviews about it. But, that damn thing is so heavy and big. About 800 pages, and it's a hardback copy. This means I can't be reading while lying down on the bed. Hmm well it's supposed to be bad for your eyes anyway (reading while lying down, not reading a book :P). So looks like I'm going to spend my weekend buried in this book. Oh plus enjoying the new season of Amazing Race, which I finally got after a week. This laptop kept giving me 'delayed write error' messages. Anyone knows how to rectify this? This season got Rob & Amber from Survivor. If they manage to win, they're sure going to be one rich couple. They already have $1.5 million among them. Man, how I wish I had that much money..

Movie update..

Constantine

Great movie. Watching Keanu Reeves as Constantine still reminds me of Neo in matrix. I read somewhere that his character is supposed to be British, but I don't think it's a british accent coming out of his mouth. The story's a bit merepek (well, they did adapt it from a comic book). Tells about John Constantine, a guy who can see demons and worked as a demon hunter to save his soul from being sent to hell. Demons are becoming more common in the world and he's worried. Then, there's Angie Dodson, a police detective who thought there was something wrong with her twin's death. She doesn't think it's suicide although everyone else thinks so. Apparently, her twin could see things as well. So, she turned to JC (malasnye nak taip name die ni,panjang sangat) for help. Together, they uncovered a sinister plot of demons trying to take over the world. Bla showdown bla exorcism bla death bla bla. Go watch la. A question to people who have watched the movie, is Gabriel supposed to be a woman or a man in that movie?

Taxi

Is this supposed to be the Hollywood remake of the french movie by Luc Besson? If it is, then don't waste your time watching this. Go watch the french version instead. It's more fun. Though if you prefer watching hot chicks, this movie would be fine. It has Gisele Bundchen(supermodel and Leonardo di Caprio's girl?) playing a thief. Oh but be warned, the main actress is not a model though, it's Queen Latifa.

Weekend update

Hmm quite a happening weekend for last week

First up was the LSE MSS Nite thing, which was supposed to start at 7pm which actually meant 8pm Malaysian time :P . And to think we actually rushed because we thought we were late (we as in Nun, Bob, Yat, Wei Ting, Kasya and me). Baby, Aida, Drog, Mimi, Siewch, Natte' and Shasa were the first group to perform. They did very well indeed but they couldn't beat the Indian dance performed by two girls which won the first prize. They were so energetic and I wonder how they were able to keep it up for almost 10 minutes I think. Must have been a great way to exercise. There were then a few sketches and songs. Jin(Kasya said he looked like Radhi OAG) was pretty unlucky because the overhead projector failed in the middle of his presentation. Even the audience were dissappointed when we were told that the problem couldn't be rectified. It was a really fun presentation. After the nite ended, we thought of watching a movie but ended up talking/gossiping till late at nite in my room. Oh, and we played on ebay as well. Nun actually won a bid on a 100ml bottle of J'adore perfume.

The next day, Nun went out with Bob to Harrod's, just for the sake of buying Krispy Kreme donuts. Heh I think you could actually get them form Sainsbury's or Tesco. I decided to cook up some mihun soto and luckily, it turned out ok. That night, we watched Jackie Chan's 'New Police Story'. We almost didn't finished watching it because of technical difficulties. First, my laptop refused to play the dvd after about 10 minutes. Then we went to Yat's room to use her laptop. After 40 minutes, it was her laptop's turn to hang. Finally we decided to try it on Bob's laptop. Luckily it turned out ok eventhough his speaker wasn't working very well. Not like it mattered because we couldn't understand what they were saying anyway. The movie was originally in cantonese but we ended up with mandarin audio. Plus, we ended up having Malay subtitles because the menu was all in chinese. Nasib baik bukan bahase siam yang keluar. We spent the rest of the movie laughing at the subtitles and wondering whether it was correctly translated or not.

IMO, the story's great, with typical Jackie Chan's choreographed fighting scene. Although this story was more serious than the previous Police Story movies, it also had it light and funny moments. Basically it tells of Inspector Chan and his effort to catch a gang of bank robbers who loved to shot policemen, as if it was a game to them. After his whole team was destroyed during the operation to capture the thieves, Chan turned to alcohol and became severely depressed as he believed it was all his fault that his team were dead. Along came a new recruit who became his partner and encouraged him to buck up and catch the thieves for revenge. If you want to know the rest, you watch it la..

Sunday, I had to woke up early because Nun had to catch her bus at 11. Since circle/district lines were not in service, I sent her to the stop in front of Saint Paul's Cathedral to catch a bus straight to Victoria. As usual, there were lots of tourists taking pictures of the Millennium Bridge and the cathedral. Heh must take pictures there before the end of the summer term.

Spent the rest of the day watching movie again..updates in next entry..

My-HiME

There are two versions, anime and manga. Usually if a story is available in manga and anime, both will essentially be the same with only minor variations occuring(e.g Naruto). However, My-HiME is totally different.
Both have the same characters, but totally different storyline. It revolves around girls with extraordinary power, the power of HiME (highly advanced materialising equipment) where they can materialise some kind of robots to fight monster named orphan. In the manga, the Himes need keys-a boy who can help them unlock their 'child'[the robot things]. This I think is the main difference because in the anime, the Himes can call upon their child at will with no help from the keys at all. Both are filled with cool fighting scenes and the soundtrack of the anime is especially good. It has one haunting song, this song(but the accent's so strange..). More infos can be found here

It's Only The Fairytale

Who are those little girls in pain
Just trapped in castle of dark side of moon
Twelve of them shining bright in vain
Like flowers that blossom just once in years

They're dancing in the shadows
Like whispers of love
Just dreaming of place
Where they're free as dove

They've never been allowed to love
In this cursed cage
It's only the fairy tale they believe
